Teaching Practice PHASE II - Week 6

Day 26

It was the twenty sixth day of the final phase teaching practice. The school started at 9.30 am as the usual timing. I had the third period for A. At first, the students submitted all their works along with the notebooks. I appreciated all the students equally who book effort in completing all the tasks given. After that, I continued with the play "Listen to the Mountain". The positive encouragement from the students made do something creative." me I made few students to take the soles of the characters and to read it It so effective. was for the rest of the students to comprehend it more clearly. I discussed the activities in the and questions given testbook. After my period, I took part in the practice session of the students for celebrating Independence Day on monday.

Day 27

Today was the twenty seventh day of the final phase of the teaching practice. As the day began. with the prayer song and school assembly, I had class for IX A during the second period and sixth day. On at first the second period, I continued the play "Listen to the Mountain". The students gave summary and after that I made them silently read the play till Stene TV and its four exchanges. The meaning of new words. were clearly explained using clear and simple examples. After that, I explained the entire portion to the whole class. The questions were discussed alongwith the activities given in the testbook. After lunch break, I engaged the students by teaching them the grammar portion "Question Tag" using the model Direct Instruction. The topic was clearly conveyed to them. Overall, the day was good for me.

Day 28

It was the twenty  eighth day of the final phase of teaching practice. I took the second pewod and steth period for 18 d. During the second period, I taught them the rest of the play. "Listen to the Mountain As usual, I made three students to the previous portions learned in order to a proper understanding. After that, I asked some questions related to the came. Then I have asked Continued with the play. The questions and activities. in the textbook were also discussed. During the sixth period, I taught them Uncountable Nom' and 'Countable Noun: In order to make these topics elear, I adopted Advance Onganizer Model. The students understood the tople well. The expense me every day I receive will be always cherished it it moulds me in a better person.

Day 29

Today the second last of our final phase teaching practice, with the school simbly and prayer sung, the day got. started. During the time of the first period. I prepared lesson plans for the coming classes. During the second period, I had class for class A gave them few questions which is important in the play. They all answered the questions. After that, I continued the play billed "Listen to the Mountain: I concentrated on the and the two important exchanges. The and a proper Stene V students actively paid attention.

Eye contact was maintained with me. the After portion, I acted two students to summarize it. They did it excellently and in the light of that. I appreciated other students to answer some questions.

Today was the last day of the final phase of the teaching practice. I had class for IX A only after the lunch break. So I decided to get a substitution. in the morning session. Luckily, I get a period during the second period. During the period, I distributed some sweek to the students token of love for cooperating cs a throughout the whole thirty days. I also with me distributed tossecled achievement test answercheeks to the thom. The top scorer, Kezia rest of the class were congratulated by the gave a small gift which I offered.

Day 30

Today was the last day of the final phase of the teaching practice. I had class for IX A only after the lunch break. So I decided to get a substitution. in the morning session. Luckily, I get a period during the second period. During the period, I distributed some sweek to the students token of love for cooperating throughout the whole thirty days. I also with me distributed tossecled achievement test answer cheeks to the them. The top scorer, Kezia, the top scorer.

During the seventh period, I planned to finish the play. I was able to convey the main points to them. I discussed all the questions and activities. givers textbook. Everything was in the smoothly coordinated alongwith the cooperation of the students. The students gave a summary of the whole play. It was always unique in a my me with chocolates and class. I wished them good memorable day for my heart.

Teaching Practice PHASE II - Week 5

 Week Report

Day 21 - 01/08/2022, Monday

It was the twenty first day of the second phase teaching practice. The school began its function by 9.30 am with the school assembly. Today , as the new week begins the school also changed the timetable with. slight variations in the periods. I was free during the morning session I had only the alloted period during the fourth period. I prepared new chapter for today's class.  

During the fourth period, I asked the students about Gandhiji. Most of the students responded with many amazing facts. I introduced the chapter "Song of the Rain" . The eagerness of the students to learn more was reflected in their inquisitiveness of the children. I managed the class with regard to time and discipline. I also made few students to feedback about  my  class. They shared a positive feedback and the day was a good one for me. 

Day 22- 08/08/2022, Tuesday

Today was the twenty second day of the second phase teaching practice. As usual, the school started it's functioning alongwith the prayer song and the assembly.I was well prepared for my today's class on the second period. At first, I made one of the student to summarize the portions taught yesterday. I asked few questions to once again bring into attention to the main points. After that, I took the desired portion. I summarized it and discussed the questions given in the textbook. I tried to bring the attention of the students to the curriculum of Gandhiji's perspective. Students active very throughout the class and properly maintained discipline in the class. I managed time and randomly checked a few notebooks and assignments of the students.  I gave them tips to improve handwriting, speaking skills, writing skills, etc. I  gave them an assignment and asked to submit it tomorrow.

Day 23- 10/08/2022, Wednesday

It was the twenty third day of the teaching practice phase two. The school assemble and the prayer song begin at sharp 9.30 am. After that, the classes began at 9.45 am. As the  morning session was free for me, I prepared for my class in the afternoon.  After the lunch break and during the fifth period, I took class for IX A. Few students volunteered to say the summary. Then I continued with the lesson by incorporating equal participation from the children. I was able to manage. and maintain discipline in the class. Jiby Sir observed my class and gave me feedbacks as well. The students enthusiastically submitted their assignments. appreciated them for doing their task within the alloted time. I tried to bring into attention their weak points whether its pronunciation, neatness, etc to improve themselves.

Day 24- 11/08/2022, Thursday 

Today was the twenty fourth day of the final phase of teaching practice. I reached the school by 9.20 am and the prayer song and the assembly began at 9.30 am. I was well prepared and clearly planned to excute today's class effectively. I had class for IP A on the fourth period as per the timetable. I started the class with asking few questions to the students. The questions were readily answered by the students quickly. I gave a summary about the portions already taught. The students actively listened to the explanations. I collected the assignments and notebooks of the students. Students listened to the summary given at the end. The students were active in the participation of all the tasks given with proper discipline. I am happy that I can finish the chapter in the desired time. 

Day 25- 12/08/2022, Friday 

Today was the twenty fifth day of the final phase of teaching practice. As the normal day, the functioning of the school began with the prayer song the school assembly. Noun Folder

 An innovation is an idea that has been transformed into practical reality. There is no single definition of innovation in education. One thing is for sure is that innovation has a very important place in education. Innovation included finding better ways of doing something and new to look at problems instead of teaching any concepts in the normal way. Innovative teachers are instinctive about student challenges such as lack of understanding, loss of focus, low engagement or demotivation. They strive to find new ways to keep students on task, motivate them to do their best, encourage them to succeed.

Innovation can be defined simply as “new idea, device or method”. Innovation work helps a teacher to teach a lesson early. The role of Innovative work is very important in English teaching. In order to teach a lesson innovatively the teacher must use lot of pictures, games, models and songs. In teaching learning process the role of innovation work is very important. It makes the class interesting.

My innovative work during the phase II teaching practice is an aid to teach students nouns especially proper noun,common noun and collective noun. The topic  nouns turn out to be confusing to the children in many circumstances. So I decided to implement something creative so as to gain the interest of the students as well as to convey the topic clearly. I prepared a board and titled it as ‘My Noun Folder’. Inthis particular board, I divided it into three sections and explained three types of nouns by giving a simple definition. Under that, several pictures given and it was covered. The students should uncover it and should identify the correct type of noun given in the form of picture. This technique was highly effective to teach different types of nouns. This method was highly recommended as it will give the students a clear comprehension as their active participation is involved in it.

Day 16- 25/07/2022, Monday

It was the sixteenth day of the second phase teaching practice. The school began its function by 9.30 am with the school assembly. Today , as the new week begins the school also changed the timetable with. slight variations in the periods. I was free during the morning session I had only the alloted period during the fourth period. I prepared new chapter for today's class.  

During the fourth period, I asked the students about Gandhiji. Most of the students responded with many amazing facts. I introduced the chapter "Tolstoy Farm" by Mahatma Gandhi. The eagerness of the students to learn more about Gandhi is reflected in their inquisitiveness of the children. I managed the class with regard to time and discipline. I also made few students to feedback about  my  class. They shared a positive feedback and the day was a good one for me. 

Day 17- 26/07/2022, Tuesday

Today was the seventeenth day of the second phase teaching practice. As usual, the school started it's functioning alongwith the prayer song and the assembly.I was well prepared for my today's class on the second period. Teaching Practice (PHASE II) Update - Week 3


Week Report 

Day 11 - 18 July 2022, Monday

Today was the eleventh day of the second phase teaching practice. As the usual timings of the school, the assembly started at 9.30 am with the prayer song. The atmosphere of the school was lively with the full strength. the fourth of students are back after the long COVID pandemic situation. I had class for IX A during submitted their assignments without asking. They After the submission of assignment and all, I continued to give brushing up a summary of the portions taught earlier. After their memory, I covered half of the lesson of "Maternity". The questions given book at the back of the text quickly answered by the student which shows their clear comprehension. I asked the students to submit their notebooks by tomorrow. All the students actively participated in each activities given to them. Each day the students seemed interested in my class. It was a good day.

Day 12 - 19 July 2022, Tuesday

It was the twelveth day of the second phase teaching practice. I reached the school by 9.20 am. I was asked to attend IX A in the morning as the class teacher had an urgent meeting with the the Headmaster. I allowed the students to do their pending works. 

I took class for IX A during the second period. I asked them some questions to check their understanding and all students answered the questions easily. After that, I continued with the rest of the chapter. I followed the steps in the lesson template alongwith incorporation the of ICT facilities to cater all kinds of learners. Each day the students actively give their positive feedbacks regarding my class. I also appreciated the students for actively doing the assignments. It was a nice day.

Day 13 - 20 July 2022, Wednesday

On the thirteenth day, I reached the school by 9.25 am. After the prayer song and assembly, the school. started its functioning at 9.45 am. The morning session was. free for my me so I wrote the record and also prepared class in the afternoon session.

I planned and prepared to conclude the chapter titled "Maternity". I made a few students to gave the summary of the portions taught already in the previous class. This helped the entire class to brush up the story once to know more about it. I also made the students to guess the climax of the story and students conveyed many ideas lesson once and guess creative regarding the climax. After that, I continued the activities and wrap it given up by discussing the questions and in the textbook. I am glad that I was able to finish yet another chapter precisely and clearly.

Day 14- 21 July 2022, Thursday

Today was the fourteenth day of the teaching practice, second phase. I was well prepared with the poem "Song of a Dream" by Sarojini Naidu. The students were eager to study the new poem. I had class for IT A during the fourth period which last for forty minutes. I started the class by checking their previous assignment.

Most of them presented thely assignments very creatively." Some of the students made they assignment vibrant by posting pictures too. The students maintained proper participation, discipline and cohesion. I was able to handle them. and maintained" proper the stanza taught and time for each task. I summarized and gave them an assignment.

Today, the Moon Day was celebrated by Science club at 1.15 pm in the science laboratory. Social Science "Club also conducted poster exhibition related to Moon Day. I took part in both the activities and it quiet enjoyed it.

Day 15- 22 July 2022, Friday

Today was the fifteenth day of the second phase of the teaching practice. As usual, I reached the school by 9.20 am. The school assembly started at 9.30 am with the prayer song. After the assembly, I prepared for class at third period as I wanted to conclude the poem. 1 book class for IX A during the third period. Dr. Alie Molly Verghis, faculty from the college came for the observation of the class, I made the students summarize the first stanza of the poem taught yesterday to have continuity. The students conveyed the message clearly about the first stanza. With the help of ICT technology, I taught the students the! next stanza of the poem. The students actively participated in the activity alloted to them. They also answered the questions given at the back of the textbook. The poetic devices were well explained to them. I am glad that I was able to teach the lesson well and overall the day. good for me.

Teaching Practice (PHASE II) Update - Week 2

Week Report 


Day 6 - 11 July 2022, Monday 

At 9.30am, the school assembly started alongwith the prayer song and the school anthem. I had class on fourth period for Class 9 A. I continued the lesson titled Learning the Game which is an extract from Sachin's autobiography Playing it My Way. Dr. Velayudhan Nair T., the faculty of Education observed the class for evaluation. I showed a video presentation to the students in order to rewind the portions already learnt. The students were active throughout the class and equally excited to know more about the legend, Sachin Tendulkar. After the class, I wrote a lesson plan on my record. The classes ended at 3.40pm with National Anthem. The day was a memorable and novel experience for me as a whole.

Day 7 - 12 July 2022, Tuesday 

The seventh day began with prayer and general assembly. The classes began at sharp 9.45am. I had class on the second period for 9 A. I took the poem titled Bang the Drum. The students were seen excited as on the other day to study the new poem about Olympics. I too was equally excited to teach them the lesson. I also had substitution for Class 9 A. I made them to do the activities given in the textbook. I also began a part of Social Science Quiz conducted on the same day. The classes ended at 3.40pm with National Anthem.

Day 8 - 13 July 2022, Wednesday 

On the eighth day, the working of the school began with prayer and general assembly. I got enough time to prepare well for my class as I was free during the morning session. I had class on the fifth period for 9 A. I continued the poem titled Bang the Drum. I also asked some questions regarding the lesson in order to check their comprehension. The students were enthusiastic to know about Olympics and it's inauguration ceremony. The class went well for me. The school ended at 3.40pm with National Anthem.

Day 9 - 14 July 2022, Thursday

The nineth day also began with prayer and general assembly.  I got a substitution period for Class 9 E. I made them read the English textbook to engage them. I had class on the fourth period for 9 A. I started to teach the lesson Maternity. The students seemed enthusiastic as they get to know more about the life of refugees. After the National Anthem, the nineth day ends as usual.

Day 10 - 15 July 2022, Friday 

On the fifteenth day, the school timing had slight variation as there was a scripture class conducted for the students. The school got  started at 9.30am than the usual timing. I had class for 9 A on the third period. The lesson, Maternity, was continued on that class. 

After lunch break, I got substitution for Class 9 F as per the guidelines of the concerned person. I made them read the English textbook by all the students. The eighth period was used to engage students with cultural activities. The students were encouraged to display their skils of singing, dancing, mimicry, etc. during the last period. The day ended with National Anthem.


Overall the second week starting from 11 July, 2022 to 15 July, 2022 was highly satisfactory as I was able to experience many events, teaching and also classroom management. The students' enthusiasm fueled me with more energy for the coming weeks. I was eager to meet my students everyday to spend fruitful time with them. A whole week' s experience was memorable and exciting for me.

Teaching Practice (PHASE II) Update - Week 1

Teaching and Practice 



W.B. Yeats defined teaching as “Education is not the filling of a pot but the lighting of a fire." 


Teaching practice is a key component of the undergraduate teacher training programme. It is during this period that the student teacher gets to translate the skills and theory learnt into reality through actual classroom teaching. Teaching practice is the vital component of teacher education and training because it provides student teachers with an opportunity to learn from experience in the work place.


Week Report 

As part of B. Ed Curriculum, Teaching Practice Phase-II started from 4 July, 2022. I attended the Class IX of Bishop Hodges Higher Secondary School, Mavelikara. I collected portions from the school on 30 June, 2022. Moncy Mathew was in charge of the subject and he allotted the class 9 A for me to teach. I am so excited to meet and  teach the students. Students were interested to learn English in an offline mode. They are more curious to learn after a long gap due to the pandemic scenario.


Day 1- 4 July 2022, Monday 

On the first day, we, the ten teacher trainees met at the school at 9.15am as per the instruction by the team leader. At first, we together met the school Headmaster, George Varghese. After that, we joined in the prayer meeting for the staff members in the school. At 9.30am, the school assembly started alongwith the prayer song and the school anthem. Normally, the classes at the school begin at 9.45am. I had class on fourth period for Class 9 A. I started the lesson titled Learning the Game which is an extract from Sachin's autobiography Playing it My Way. Students were excited to study about the childhood days of Sachin Tendulkar. I showed a video presentation to the students in order to have an idea about Sachin's cricket career. The students were active throughout the class and equally excited to know more about the legend, Sachin Tendulkar. After the class, I wrote a lesson plan on my record. The classes ended at 3.40pm with National Anthem. The first day was a memorable and novel experience for me as a whole.

Day 2 - 5 July 2022, Tuesday 

The second day began with prayer and general assembly. The classes began at sharp 9.45am. I had class on the second period for 9 A. I continued the lesson titled Learning the Game. The students were seen excited as on the first day to study about Sachin Tendulkar. I too was equally excited to teach them the lesson. The classes ended at 3.40pm with National Anthem.

Day 3 - 6 July 2022, Wednesday 

On the third day, the working of the school began with prayer and general assembly. I got enough time to prepare well for my class as I was free during the morning session. I had class on the fifth period for 9 A. I continued the lesson titled Learning the Game. I also asked some questions regarding the lesson in order to check their comprehension. The students were enthusiastic to know about Sachin's induction into the cricket career. The class went well for me. The school ended at 3.40pm with National Anthem.

Day 4 - 7 July 2022, Thursday

The fourth day also began with prayer and general assembly.  I had class on the fourth period for 9 A. I continued to teach the lesson Learning the Game. The students seemed enthusiastic as they get to know more about Sachin in each class. During the fifth period, I got a substitution for class 9 D. I engaged the class by a game named Hangman where the students need to guess letters in order to find the word or else they fail. The students thoroughly enjoyed the game which makes me happy. After the substitution period, I got another substitution period on sixth period for class 9 F. I engaged the class by making the students to read their English textbook. After the National Anthem, the fourth day ends as usual.

Day 5 - 8 July 2022, Friday 

On the fifth day, the school timing had slight variation as there was a scripture class conducted for the students. The school got  started at 9.30am than the usual timing. I had class for 9 A on the third period. The lesson, Learning the Game, was continued on that class. 

After lunch break, I took part in the conduction of Science Quiz co-ordinated by Science Club of the school. Science quiz aims to inculcate in the minds of young students a spirit of scientific enquiry , analytical thinking and provides a platform to the budding scientists for exchanging thoughts, 8 July, 2022 heralded the Science quiz competition for the Science Club members. The subject in charge Mini Varghese gave us an opportunity to conduct the Science quiz for the students. For that we prepared the questions for Science quiz. The format of the quiz entailed two rounds for each individual students. Then there was an elimination round and after two rounds were also conducted inorder to get the winners. The event witnessed enthusiastic preparation and participation.



During the sixth period, I got a chance to engage students of class 9 E. After that substitution class, I engaged class 8 E on the seventh period. The students were asked to complete their Biology notes. The eighth period was used to engage students with cultural activities. The students were encouraged to display their skils of singing, dancing, mimicry, etc. during the last period. The day ended with National Anthem.


Overall the first week starting from 4 July, 2022 to 8 July, 2022 was highly satisfactory as I was able to experience many events, teaching and also classroom management. The students' enthusiasm fueled me with more energy for the coming weeks. I was eager to meet my students everyday to spend fruitful time with them. Antonyms Wheel

Innovation can be defined simply as "new idea, device or method". Innovation work helps a teacher to teach a lesson early. The role of Innovative work is very important in English teaching. In order to teach a lesson innovatively the teacher must use lot of pictures, games, models and songs. In teaching learning process the role of innovation work is very important. It makes the class interesting.

My innovative work during the phase I teaching practice is an aid to teach students antonyms of different words commonly used. The topic antonyms and synonyms turn out to be confusing to the children in many circumstances. So I decided to implement something creative so as to gain the interest of the students as well as to convey the topic clearly. I prepared a antonym wheel and titled it as 'Antonym Wheel'. By this particular wheel, I added many common words and their antonyms in the other end. The students should turn the wheel in order to know the antonym of their desired word. This technique was highly effective to teach different words and their antonyms. This method was highly recommended as it will give the students a clear comprehension as their active participation is involved in it. It is also student centered also.

Teaching Practice PHASE I Report

 Practice teaching is the practical implementation of the information and strategies that students have learned. The student teacher practice what they have learned and are supervised by teachers from the college, subject teacher and school principals. The purpose of Practice Teaching is to produce qualified teachers that are equipped and skilled in their chosen year level. Another reason is to prepare student teachers for their career as teachers by immersing them completely into the school atmosphere so that they will have the feel of what it would be like to be an actual teacher.


I attended the nineth grade class at Bishop Hodges High School, Mavelikara which Practice teaching is the practical implementation of the information and strategies that students have learned. The student teacher practice what they have learned and are supervised by teachers from the college, subject teacher and school principals. The purpose of Practice Teaching is to produce qualified teachers that are equipped and skilled in their chosen year level. Another reason is to prepare student teachers for their career as teachers by immersing them completely into the school atmosphere so that they will have the feel of what it would be like to be an actual teacher.


I attended the nineth grade class at Bishop Hodges High School, Mavelikara which is located in the Mavelikara town. With the new curriculum, students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences. As a result they gain a wealth of skills, vast amounts of knowledge, and a genuine life-long love for learning There are opportunities for students to pursue their interests through before and after school activities such as Dancing or Singing club, and numerous in-school enrichment activities such as the Student Council, or Nature Club. Children participate in these activities based on personal interest, and are expected to balance both extracurricular activities and academic curriculum. Some activities involve parent support, and parents are usually actively engaged with the students either through the home or school, or both. The school also seems to strive to provide an environment where individual attention is given to all those who need it.


Each classroom seemed to encourage an atmosphere where students were invited to share their learning and bring in personal interests. The desks were grouped in clusters, with about 4 to 5 students in each row.


According to the ninth grade teachers in the school, nineth grade was as an academic leap for many students. Ninth grade was when school became more "academic", meaning students started to be held more accountable to their learning by taking tests, student's responsibility for homework increased relative to earlier grades, and paragraph and essay writing became an important part of their success in all content areas.


My entire practice teaching journey became more challenging and exciting because of the students. This was another venue for me to enhance my teaching skills and to meet various people with different personalities. I also had the chance to be mentored by the best Science Teacher in the school, Mr. Moncy Mathew. With his guidance, my entire voyage turns out smooth sailing.
